Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree and 18 graduate semester hours in anatomy, biology, medicine, microbiology or physiology or a master's degree in anatomy, biology, medicine, microbiology or physiology.
  • Ability to teach transfer courses offered in the Pre-healthcare and Biology curricula (i.e. Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Pathophysiology, etc.).
  • Ability to use technology and a variety of learning modalities to deliver instruction.
  • Ability to carry out institutional effectiveness activities and participate in the life of the college (i.e. serve on committees, advise students, participate in assessment and planning activities).
    Commitment to the community college "open door" philosophy and the comprehensive community college concept.
  • Desire to participate in professional development activities, including those related to instructional design and student learning and engagement.
  • Desire to participate in community service activities and incorporate into class projects.
  • Willingness to conduct program activities related to recruitment, advisement, and articulation from/to public schools and universities.
  • Willingness to teach and work in the day, evening, on Saturday, summer hours, at unconventional times or via distance learning (i.e., remote instruction, HyFlex courses, online synchronous and asynchronous) as necessary.
  • Willingness to teach and work with dually enrolled high school students both at SCC and on high school campuses.

    Primary Functions of Position
    Since quality instruction is the primary function of the college, it is the principal responsibility of each instructor to effectively and efficiently maximize student learning in every course. In addition, instructors should provide guidance to students through their role as an academic advisor and in more informal ways. Additionally, each instructor is expected to participate in the governance of the college through committees and divisional meetings, through shared leadership within and across divisions, through personal recommendations to college administrators, and through participation in the Instructors' Council.


    Application Procedures
    The successful candidate must begin work by August 12, 2024. Salary dependent upon qualifications, experience, and labor market. (Contract is for twelve months.) Excellent references from previous employers must be furnished upon request.

    A completed Southeastern Community College application (located on the SCC website), a resume, letter of interest addressing the position requirements and educational transcripts (unofficial copies of transcripts will be sufficient for the screening process, but official copies must be submitted prior to employment) must be submitted to the college Human Resources Office in order for applicants to be considered for this position.
