POSITION: Instructional Technologist (FT)

Effective immediately: (FT) Instructional Technologist - Online and Educational Technology Department, Wilmington University

Requirements: A Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree Education, Educational Technology, Training and Development or related field preferred. Must be detailed oriented and able to learn software and other new technologies. Must have excellent communication, customer services skills, and organization skills. Must be detail-oriented and able to work with diverse populations. Must be self-directed and able to make decisions independently as well as work successfully in a team environment. Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office products, IT support systems, as well as Instructional Technology and Course Management. Must have a demonstrated knowledge and application of adult learning theory, instructional design, and appropriate use of asynchronous and synchronous instructional technology within various formats (fully online, hybrid / blended, and classroom based). Must have knowledge and experience using various web-based and classroom technologies (i.e., Screen capture, lecture capture, web conferencing, audio and video capture and communication, response systems, digital presentation, web tools, etc.) Must be proficient in Camtasia or other video editing software. Proficiency in the design, development, implementation, and assessment of professional development workshops and materials on instructional technology preferred. Preferred experience with Canvas Learning Management /system, including Zoom, Kaltura and Canvas Gradebook. Knowledge of building training tutorials documented on paper and video is necessary in training instruction. Must possess polished interpersonal and verbal/written skills with a strong commitment to quality customer service. Must demonstrate the ability to quickly learn new technical and communication skills, possess effective project-management skills, and has the ability to effectively distill complex ideas into succinct prose. Must demonstrate respect for diversity in the workplace and a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive work environment that values the contributions of all employees. Incumbent must maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all situations.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Work closely with faculty to strengthen teaching and learning. Support technology skills of adjunct and provide training in a variety of modalities (online, face to face and blended learning.)
  • Serve as a LMS (Canvas) specialist, assist in providing on demand, and scheduled consulting services to faculty in the implementation of effective outcomes-based materials using the appropriate and available technology for onsite and online courses.
  • Facilitate and update current online self-paced training courses using the Canvas LMS system.
  • Design training programs and facilitate on-site and web-based professional development workshops for faculty and students on topics associated with the effective use of Canvas, classroom technologies and the appropriate application of online tools and software resources.
  • Identify, develop, and update targeted training resources (tutorials, videos, e-support articles, etc.) for faculty, staff, and students on identified technologies.
  • Work in partnership with technologists and media specialists on the team to develop and roll out training plans for system upgrades and new faculty and staff training programs.
  • Maintain involvement and understanding of current trends in Ed Tech systems/ software and provide learning resources and guidance in that area to other team members (cross-training).
  • Assist Manager in keeping abreast of developments in educational technology by identifying classroom and web applications that enhance course quality and student engagement.
  • Promote and foster an inclusive and diverse environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform other duties, which may be assigned by the Instructional Technology Manager.

Hours of Employment: Generally, Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Incumbent must be flexible with their schedule to accommodate the needs of the department and/or the University. This may include sporadic Saturday workshops, weeknight webinars, as well as online support using Zoom and sometimes SKYPE. Position may require some travel to other campus sites.
